Just got a 1987 3hp 2-stroke as part of a sailboat purchase. I am winterizing and do not see a tell tale when it’s running in a barrel of water. The water level in the barrel is within the low and high levels suggested in the manual. Carefully timed and ran 2 minutes, nothing. The previous owner said he never saw a tell tale when running it. The manual doesn’t mention checking for a tell tale in the starting / running procedures. Have used forced air and a small wire in the holes where a 1992 showed a tell tale in a YouTube video and can feel air coming out of those holes when running but definitely no water.
Can anyone confirm if the tell tale also exits the engine with exhaust below the surface of the water? Or confirm where the tell tale should be coming out?
