2013 Mercury 350 mag code 148???

I have a twin 2013 Merc 350 Mag port engine ser# 2A049636 that is giving me a fault code "Shift Position Sensor and Neutral Switch Disagree" Mercury Fault 148 Name "ESC_NSW_DIFF" any ideas?
 
An older manual suggests the harness connection to the neutral switch is faulty or the neutral switch itself has gone bad.
 
Thanks for your input markomark. That pointed me in the right direction. One of the screws the holds the neutral switch in place was missing and that let it swivel away from the shift lever. Installed new screws with loctite and ran code scanner all good.
