Honda cowling latch release is disconnected

Hello, hoping for some guidance on this site. Looks like a great resource. I have 2004 225's. When removing the cowling, I pull the front latch release on the front of the motor and nothing happens. The cowling is currently off but won't relatch. When operating the release, there is no resistance, nothing is attached, nothing moves other than the little latch itself. It's supposed to move multiple parts in the motor front and back to release and secure the cowling. Hoping someone here is familiar with the process. Not sure if something disconnected or broke. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a cable connected to the lever that releases the latches. I have had one of the rear latches corrode and get stuck. I ended up replacing it, and now I keep all of the pieces well lubricated. It is possible that your cable has become disconnected. A service manual may help.
