Merc 140 HP 4 cyl Alpha Drive Stalling Issue

Hi Everyone,

The engine starts great and idles but when your driving it stalls every time in about 30 to 45 minutes while cruising. It will then not start for about 45 minutes usually. Temperature gauge normal. Had to be towed in again yesterday. Very frustrating problem. Any suggestions?

My first thought would be that the vent is stopped up causing the tank to go into a vacuum Or the line from the tank to the carburetor is partially stopped up and after running for a while it sucks up enough trash to stop the fuel completely you can check the vent by running the boat until it cuts off and then remove the fuel cap to see if that will allow it to start and run,..
 
Does certainly sound like it may be the coil as Chris suggests. You need to determine if you are missing fuel or spark when this happens. May run it at a fast idle tied to the dock for 45 min until it dies to preproduce it.

In the meantime ohm out the coil to check it vs factory specs
