Mercruiser (and lately Sierra) came out several years ago with a "dry joint" elbow that was supposed to solve failures that let cooling water back into the exhaust system... a problem with the standard "coaxial" water passages system. Anyone have any experience as to HOW much these elbows improved service life...if at all ??? Anyone have any info as to WHAT the failure mode is for dry joints? Particularly interested in "fresh water" cooled but used in sea water applications.
