V6 2 stroke oil leak

1988 200 2stroke I have what seems to be an intermittent oil leak. Most times engine tank remains full of oil and no oil leaks out of the motor. Then sometimes it gets so low I get a warning buzzer when I turn the key on. Then I have to wait for the reservoir to fill before I can go. Can’t seem to catch it leaking.
I tilted the motor all the way up one time and it seemed like some oil was coming out around where the shift linkage goes down to the lower unit.
Any ideas?
 
The leak that happens intermittently is what drains the engine mounted oil tank. I can’t catch it. I can use the boat sometimes and there is no oil leak. Then other times the engine oil tank is drained down and there is oil everywhere in the compartment and transom. It’s not coming from the cap or the connection at the bottom of the tank
