Displaced in the Desert

I need to replace the impeller, so I need to remove the lower unit on a 1986 Mercury 45hp Serial # A948873.

It looks like there are total 4 nuts to remove in order to remove the lower unit, 2 in front, one underneath, and the one holding the trim tab, I am told there is another under the trim tab visable once removed.

The problem I have run into is getting to the nut that is holding the trim tab. The hole with the plastic cap is to small to get my normal Craftsman 5/8 deep socket into. It's not an impact socket, 3/8 drive. The 9/16 won't fit either. A 1/2" fits but is to small for the nut down inside the housing that holds the trim tab.

Is there a special tool for this? Some thin wall socket still strong enough to get in there.
