I have a 1989 Merc 3 cylinder 50 hp. I removed the bottom of the shaft to rebuild the water pump. The rebuild went fine but now I can't get the lower unit back on. There is the drive shaft and transmission shaft (both with splines) plus the exhaust tube and a copper water tube that all have to line up. I think I have them all lined up but when I push the lower unit up, I am left with a gap of about 1".
