Adding neutral safety switch for 270 outdrive?

My 1972 runabout has the AQ130 engine and 270 outdrive with the vintage style shifter (Teleflex?). Is it possible to add a neutral safety switch to it? I am guessing not since the shifter is strictly mechanical with no wires or connectors.
 
You would have to do it by adding a microswitch with an actuating arm on a bracket at the control head wired so as to allow "start" to happen only when the shift lever at the helm is in "N". Some aluminum strip and some clever bends and some mounting holes. That's all Teleflex did on the newer shifters...
 
Thank you Capt Bob. I will just be very careful as I have been in the past about making sure I'm in neutral before turning the key.
