I just bought a 6hp murcury year 1968. The owner said it ran when he sprayed fuel Into the carb. So I figured carb issue. So I checked compression 60psi both cylinders. Pretty low but apparently it should be able to run with those numbers. Got good spark. Cleaned the carb it was very dirty. Seemed like a fuel seal came apart and plugged the filter. After all that she started right up and ran real nice. The only issue I got is at high rpm the starter makes a mettalic sound. I can kinda look in and it seems like the dogs are pretty loose and making contact. Was wondering if theirs any way to tighten them up or if I have to get a new starter.
Also I got a what I think is a 1973 merc 75. 7.5 hp that the a seal went. was wondering if I can just take the starter of that and put it on the 6hp.
