Starting question on a 98 BF75

Got a couple of other threads going working through various items. Got a 98 BF75, low hours that needed some TLC. After going through things I ran it on a stand. Was not fun getting it started and chalked it up that I had drained the carbs and the fact that it had been sitting for a while. Ran great after warm up. Mounted on boat and darn it was stupid hard to get started. Doing a bit of research, some say that is their nature and one need to put throttle at 1/2 or more to start. Others say the choke jets could be plugged, could be valves are tight and so on. It does have an electric choke and it is working fine….at least externally.

Any thoughts? I will pull and clean carbs if needed but don’t want to go through this if not necessary.
