45# trolling motor

I bought a 17' express boat that has a 45#trolling motor on. The motor seems to work fine but if I get in a river with flowing water it has a real hard time against the current. If I take an off shoot with quieter water it works better but not great. Any ideas or suggestion would be apricated. thanks DMR
 
It may be undersized...if possible, check with the boat manufacturer to see what trolling motor(s) they offered the boat with...a dealer for that brand would be another option...that would likely be the smallest viable size...if you opt to upgrade it, could need new wires and batteries...

if the current is that fast, use the outboard...
