2002 Mercury 2 Stroke - Shift Link Replacement

I have a 2002 Mercury 90 hp that will not shift. First time out this season running fine, while at low speed, would not shift out of forward.

I believe I found the problem with the shift link on lower left side of motor. I cannot find any on-line info for its replacement. Even unable to locate part on drawings. I think I have the correct part that connects from throttle cable to shift rod? (Mercury 73402- Link)

I am attaching photos

Questions
- Is this the correct part?
-Does the power head need to be removed to replace?

Appreciate any assistance

What is the history of the engine that would cause the shift linkage to be defective. I had that engine for 10 years and never had a shifting problem.

I bought the boat last year. I believe it spent its time on a lift over salt water year round. Looks like the part failed due to rust.
