'58 Evinrude 5.5hp

There is no rubber seal.---It uses a slinger (303649 ) and a port to suck oil back into the intake.----Perhaps the wrong gasket was used.----Or a mechanic used too much sealant and plugged the port.
 
Are you sure it is oil? Often times, somebody will over lubricate the armature plate mounting rings. Vibration liquifies the grease, usually turns it black, and it splatters all over the plate and points. Moral: More isn't always better.
