Sparkplug Gap

A general question here. My owners manual says to gap the NGK plug at .035". NGK (per this site) says to gap the same plug at .028". So I'm confused which I should do?
Thanks, Rich

Thanks Mark. It is really an old (88) Mariner 30 hp outboard, completely stock. I posted the question here hoping you would reply.

I'd say go with the current NGK recommendation...if it doesn't perform as expected, you can always open up the gap a bit (if they are the old normal style - no platinum or iridium ends on the electrodes). most outboards in that time frame have CDI types of ignitions and produce very 'hot' sparks...
