15HP 152BA Reverse Gear Linkage

With the cover on I can not shift into reverse. I don't want to force it into reverse but If I take the cover off I can manually push the back lever (below fuel pump) to reverse with no issues. Not using a lot of force to do this either. Neutral and Forward are fine but seems to be a lot of play too.

It looks and feels like there is just to much play in this linkage design overall.

Any tips to tighten this up with the linkage or any adjustments that can be made?

Thanks!

Are you turning the prop when shifting ?----You need to do that.

Yes the motor is running when I put it in reverse

The problem is when trying to get in reverse the leverage on the linkage seems pretty weak. I then need to remove cover and push the back lever.

Well I was able to adjust the linkage so that reverse would engage and hold.
It’s not great and there seems to be a lot of play but it’s working.

Has anyone modified or updated the actual pin and lever that controls the gear position? The lever has play the pin has play and this aluminum material is soft.

If problems come back I would be tempted to put a small slot on cowling near the back of the motor where the linkage meets up and there seems to be a lever you could connect to and change gears.
