Base assembly water pump

Hi everyone new here and really need help. I have an 86 150xr2 trying to replace base assembly water pump and cannot get the new one installed. Manage to break new one have another ordered on the way but it would not go in there tried forcing tapping it’s like the new one it’s slightly larger than the whole. Is there some trick I’m missing

Perhaps a different lower unit has been installed on your motor.

As far as I know it’s the original this was my father‘s boat and he owned it since it was new I’ve had it for about seven years now

Would there be any way to tell if it’s not the original

Visit your local Mercury dealer to order the part.

Take it back along with your lower unit to resolve the issue.

There are 2 differnt base sizes..the early style with small base(2.245) is what ya need.. 46 96146A 5

Thank you again the size did fit but I had to order a different oil seal it wasn’t the right size but other than that I have it back together and it seems to be working so again thank you
