Was helping an acquaintance with a 2000 Yamaha 8hp Model 8MSHY Two Stroke he bought for $350. Motor has 90psi compression x2 & runs but had a weak telltale stream so we pulled the lower unit to replace the water pump and found quite a bit of corrosion in that area including the drive shaft. Can the corrosion on the shaft be removed or does the shaft need to be replaced? Motor seems to have been been used in saltwater/brackish conditions and not flushed/maintained well but I've seen a lot worse. My friend just would rather not put a bunch of $ into it.
