115 mercury outboard

I have a 1997 mercury 115 outboard. It's leaking oil, from the exhaust ports.
We had couple days of freezing weather. Don't know if that had anything to do with the oil leak.Because it hasn't leaked before. By reading some forums,I'm thinking it's the shift shaft seal. I don't know of any boat macanhics. I would like some inputs on what to ask,and what else I should change when I do find a macanic.I just trying g to get little educated, when I do take it to a shop. Thanks

Those aren't the exhaust ports they are the water pickup holes below the waterpump, (smell the liquid and see if it smells strongly of sulfur) the freezing temps. could expand the LU oil and it could run out there; or the gaskets or out of the shiftshaft bushing.

In the diagram you can see the seals (seals Nr. 19,20 Oring-17) I think you should remove the LU and pressure test it. I would replace the gaskets and seals and impeller anyway.

All I can give are generalities my manuals end in 78 - I bought them for my motors. This puts me waaaay behind the "curve" but I recognized the water holes!
