Hello! Just bought this boat at the end of the season. Just want to make sure its not unusual to see the shift linkage go into the bottom end with no “cover” or anything. Also the pivot tube it goes through appears to not have any covering on the bottom.

Right. Be sure to change lower unit lube, this is often overlooked. When was the water pump last serviced? Might check that too. These are pretty good motors when taken care of.
