1962 Chris Craft 283 rebuild. Oil filter canister change out.

I'm rebuilding my 283 v8. I want to install an adapter to be able to utilize a conventional spin on oil filter. Is there any need to have the oil bypass reinstalled? Isn't it for clogged oil filter conditions? Not sure if that is a concern for a boat engine. Any help will be appreciated.
 
Ayuh,..... I guess it depends on the adapter you choose, if it has a built-in by-pass, or not,.....
 
I agree with Bondo in that your choice may be dictated by the adapter/kit you use.

I would keep the bypass valve if at all possible because it will only help....and really doesn't cause any harm....especially if someone in the futures adds oil with a high viscosity than desired....
