Hi, I have a set of 2006 TLDI 90s on a Boston Whaler. Yesterday the starboard engine died when I dropped down to idle after a 45 minute run and now dies after less than a minute if running at idle, it sounds rough before dying.
I’ve pulled the plugs and they look dry and clean.
I did notice that the water stream yesterday was slightly reduced on the problem engine and it looked like a bit more water could have been coming out of the exhaust than the port engine. The other thing I’ve noticed recently is when the engine is up for a day and I put it back down into the water the slightest oil slick shows up which is why I was wondering if the plugs were fouled and a bit of the residue was getting into the water.
Fuel is clean and the port engine runs great on the same supply. I didn’t notice any change in power or imbalance when coming home yesterday (4000rpm at 27knts). Lastly I checked the oil and they are at the same level on both engines.
Unfortunately I have guests coming next week for some crabbing so really hoping to address this without pulling the boat. Any ideas or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated.
thank you!
