7.4 fuel pump loses prime

Hi all, If I don't start my 7.4 every 3 or 4 days, the fuel pump loses its prime. I literally have to disconnect the flexible hose that feeds the fuel pump/filter and siphon it by mouth, which doesn't take long, plug the hose back in and all is well. Why is the fuel draining back into the water separator? Air leak? Bad pump? Anyone see this or have any direction I should go first?

I presume you are referencing a mechanical fuel pump? If there were any holes or leaks in the hose from the separator to the pump or from the pump to the carb, you should smell gasoline when the engine is running. I suspect the diaphragm in the pump may be ruptured. It is easier to simply replace the pump than rebuild it. Just research how to reposition the fuel pump rod, once the pump is removed.
