Water pump on a Johnson 5.5 hp CD 17

Hi,

I'm in the middle of restoring a Johnson Cd 17 5.5 and want to know does the power head need to come off in order to replace the impeller.

Yes it does.----Just 7 screws, linkages and hoses.-------Bonus is that it allows you to inspect the mechanical seal on top of driveshaft.------Note , in my opinion it is good / practical design.-----Shift linkages can not go out of adjustment on these.

I thought so.....Good old Johnson bolts, I've already sheared one off, the first one. You're right, it is a good design just a PITA the do it but fun if the bolts come out. Thanks.
