Crazy question about alpha gen 1 lower

Soundside

Hi all,

I had to destructively remove the shift shaft bushing from the lower unit on my early alpha 1. There's some minor damage to the threads. I wanted to clean this up with a tap or thread chase (maybe use a bolt with some grooves cut in it). So, I measured the new bushing threads, and came up with 1"-14. WRONG! I bought a 1x14 bolt, and it does not match the thread on the new bushing. Ever so slightly different.

Does anyone here happen to know what the thread pitch/size is on this thing?
Thanks much.

I measured a used one I have.

Thread peak to thread peak diameter was .985"

I used a thread gauge and measured threads and they appear to be 14

so I would think the tap you have is correct.

I would ask, Which shift shaft seal bushing did you purchase?

The correct one is Item 49, click on link

Thanks kghost. That's very helpful. I actually got a response back from a query I sent to Merc, and it's the same. I double checked the bolt that I bought and lo and behold, it is not a 14 tpi. So, somehow I got a bogus bolt.
To answer your question, I have bought one of the composite aftermarket bushings. Do you have experience with these - positive, negative?
Thanks again.
