Volvo Penta hard steering to starboard

Hi all.
I just bought a 22' 2006 stingray deck boat with a Volvo Penta 5.0 gxi-f engine.

I was driving along in a no wake zone so not going very fast when I heard a thump thump . I kept going and heard it again when I realized there must be stumps under me.
I got out of that area and went to the opened waters.

Shortly after I realized it was tough to turn to the starboard side of the boat.
Only during higher speeds.

Turns fine to the port side..

Any ideas or direction I should look..

New to the boating world

Pull the boat and inspect the drive.

Boat is out of the water. Everything looks normal.
When I push the outdrive left or right it only moves an inch or two.
So no free moving...

Power steering???? If so, you likely can't move the drive by hand from the outside.
Any indication anywhere on the drive where you hit?

Hi Bob.
Everything looked good and normal on first inspection.
I am going to give it a look over when I get home again.
Spoke to my nephew last night who knows a little bit about boats and said there is a little fin on the outdrive that may have gotten pushed which could explain the steering fine in one direction but not the other...


I mentioned the not being able to move the outdrive from left to right because one mechanic I talked to told me to try that and if it did slide freely back and forth or even one way meant I did major harm to it.

So was glad it didn't do that

IF it steers ok at low speeds, maybe trim tab ( the fin) is knocked way off.... Take a picture and post it...
