Older merc questions

I’ve got two older merc outboards. One is a 115 hp (6441946) and a 140hp (7125056). I believe the 115hp is a 1983 and the 140hp is a 1979 but I could be off by a couple years.

My 140hp runs great but doesn’t have power trim. The 115hp needs a lottt of work to run, but the unit has power trim. So I’m basically wondering how I can swap the 115 for the 140 but keep the power trim. Would a powerhead swap work or is there an easier way to swap the motors without losing powertrim

thanks

You can swap the power trim system from the 1983 to the 1979 assuming the 1983 has the "old style" external trim rams and remote pump. Not that big of deal assuming nice freshwater engines with little corrosion. I just went out to the shop and looked at a 1978 900 with trim I have in stock, looks like tilt the engine up remove a cross bolt and nut from both sides going through the stern bracket and some other hardware, the nylon strap if it still has it, and the rams are off, looks like you can leave the hydraulic lines intact.
