Have a mercruiser 350 mag MPI bravo 3. Was slipped into reverse at about 30 mph. At the same time steering cable shorted on battery terminal. Have replaced steering cable, lower transom cable, plugs, cap and rotor, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, injectors, cleaned out fuel. Oil pressure is excellent. Boat runs amazing, even under load, planes easily and up to ~3800 rpm. Seems to be a guardian or rev limiter at this rpm? No alarms. Any ideas what this could be?
