Engine Won't Crank, Solenoid Clicks, All Gauges Energize...

Hello again,

I recently worked on my stern drive trim pump and got that working--thank you very much, forum folks. Now, the engine will not crank....it could be that the batteries are low--and I have been charging them to no avail. The last time the engine ran was Father's Day weekend.

The solenoid clicks and all gauges light up. The trim works fine. I am now taking the batteries out to get them tested, and hope they are just shot. But if they are not, and will accept a real charge, what would I look at next? All my connections were cleaned during the trim pump work 2 weeks ago.

Any ideas?

Start checking all of your starting system electrical connections. Check your ground cable from the battery to the block. make sure there is no corrosion or loose fittings. If the solenoid is clicking but the starter is not turning, it is possible you need a new starter. You can pull the starter and bench test it.
