6HP Four stroke hot with strong tell tale

Water was dripping our of the tell tale extremely hot. So I replace the impeller and ran a wire up the tube to clear any blockage. Hot the tell tell is peeing very string but the thermostat housing gets so hot you cannot touch it, just running at idle. So I pulled the thermostat and it was open but no water was flowing. So my question is what is the water flow on this engine. After the tell tale where should the water flow next? I ran the motor without the thermostat and pulled the by pass house off and still no water any where. Any suggestions?
