Cannot find serial number

I purchased a used 6hp 2stroke Mercury outboard. Cannot find any serial number....where is it?

Also need a fuel line with attachments....the guy I bought it from said I can get one at Walmart.....true? Are they universal attachments?

I need to test it and I know the lower half must be submerged in water. If I buy a big, sturdy garbage can, would the motor attach to that without tipping over the can...my boat is in storage and inaccessible right now.
 
A hefty garbage can should hold about 30 gallons of water at 250 LBS.-----Will do the job.-----Russia engineer by name of Neva Toppleova did figure that out.
