Do interchange reference books cover

Can anyone tell me if interchange books cover Commercial models to non commercial models.
I have a commercial Evinrude 40 from 1988 Model 40RCLY, I believe that the only differences are the gear box is from a more powerful engine i.e. 60hp.
and of course my flywheel has no teeth for an electric start.
Trying to find out if the flywheel of any other model can be used on my powerhead?

Sorry for the slow reply, night shift.
I only say the gearbox is from a larger model because thats the answer Google gave me, I would appreciate you opinion.

just a couple of observations, think an 88' 40hp would have 2 carbs, also exhaust would be thru prop, and your model number style (40RCLY) more closely is like model numbers from 69' thru 76' edit: after looking at parts lists that gear case is pre 1977

Nope-----That is the regular gearcase for that motor !-----And only 1 carburetor on this motor.----As stated earlier this is just the 40 HP 1974 to 1976 model reborn with CD ignition and marketed as a simple ---" commercial "--- motor.----They got rid of a lot of old inventory with that marketing.------And I would say the gears and bearings in this 1950's design are much stronger than a modern 40 HP motor !

Thankyou for that, so I should be looking for a 69 through 76 fly wheel and starter

It was clearly stated that your flywheel is for CD ignition and marked as such.-----The 1964 through 76 model were for breaker points ( conventional ) magneto !!----Post some more pictures of your flywheel !-----Is there not a shop in your area to explain this ?

No shops here that will do much except tell you to scrap it and buy new, my choices will be learn and fix it my self or sell it on.
At the moment only 1 outboard wrecker tells me they have a kit that will work for me, they want $600 plus shipping from Melbourne, a very long way.
2 online sellers have offered me what they have, I am trying to sort out what if either will fit.

1 is this, picture.

I will get on google and find out the differences you pointed out, thank you.
Mick

That appears to be an entirely different 40 HP motor !!-----I can't believe the confusion here.----I think I should step aside as there is no progress made here !

That’s why I hoped an interchange reference book, might give me a short list. That way I could put up a advert asking for a motor model or part that would be compatible.
I will tell that someone, no thank you.
