Johnson 250 V8 oceanrunner help

Serial tag is missing and I need to know year and model number for a few parts I need. Any help would be awesome I can provide pictures.

Cant seem to get the files to upload for some reason but I do have the numbers off the plug at the top of the block in between the cylinder heads. It is G3628330 and to the left of that is a metal tab with the numbers 484232 engraved in it.

The issue with the engine is the reverse gear does not work. The shifter shifts and all linkages move but the prop spins freely and you can hear the gears not engaging properly. I will continue to try uploading photos but this is what I got for now. I can provide any other info on what I find on the engine itself to help identify more.

Look into setting the shift rod height.----Sounds like the shift rod is screwed too far into the lower unit.---Step # is to remove the gearcase.
