Shifter cable Question

Hello all, I recently replaced my OEM shifter / throttle controls and realized after I got it on the water that I had the F-N-R shifter on the wrong arm of the controls. basically backwards. Push forward - go backwards, push backwards- go forwards. Anyway, I ran it like that for the day and then repaired it upon returning home. I have yet to be able to get it back in the water to check performance. As this is my first boat, should I expect better performance from the boat now that the cable is attached to the correct arm on the controller? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

So you connected the new cables the wrong way; if the throttle cable had a short movement due to restrictions, then you may just have more throttle the next time out.

Not new cables, but new controller for the cables. I would be happy to have further travel on the throttle side of the controller in the true forward position than what I had in the (Reversed) forward position. If that makes since?
