Paul here from Perth Australia.

I have a Honda 200HP only 8 years run time, 850 hrs and i go on a long run, say 10 to 15 miles, pull the engine out of gear and idle.
I then put the engine in gear and it starts surging, hunt and shudder and then shut down, occasionally you can smell fuel.

Start the engine, sometimes difficult to start, put in gear and plays up again, frustrating.

Its if it only happens when the engine has warmed up after a good run.?

The idle ports show signs of un-burnt fuel, this has come about after changing the HO2 sensor and going on a big run. (tried attaching an image with no luck)

Once i get the boat up and running it runs like a dream, no issues.

Never happens when i put the boat in reverse, only forward gear.

I idle when drifting while fishing

Below are the things i have completed.

  1. Reset the Engine control unit.
  2. Remove spark plugs and inspect / clean or replace.
  3. Replaced H02 sensor. (35655-ZY3-C01)
  4. IAC Valve replaced.
  5. Neutral switch replaced.
  6. Map sensor replaced.
  7. Adjust idle RPM to the original settings (650rpm) + or – 50 rpm
  8. VST inspected with service kit put through it.
  9. All fuel filters replaced with new.
  10. Fuel pumps and pressures all tested and in spec.

Next on the radar is to inspect, clean & test the fuel injectors.

Adjust valve clearance to inlet valves .010" and exhaust .012" (these settings i got from a previous post you gave to a close mate of mine who had the same issue)

Is the engine being starved from fuel or is it getting too much.

Do you think i should check these items:

  1. Filter mesh screen on fuel rails.
  2. Intake air sensor
  3. Vacuum hose to fuel regulator

Great if you could respond with any idea's.

Regards
Paul
