F300 XCA Metal shavings in oil filter

2010 F300 XCA was cruising at 4000 rpm and engine start tapping loudly. Found metal shavings in oil filter. Was told can't redo plasma liners in cylinders. Trying to decide if any engine repair is worth doing. Was told all kinds of disheartening info like in saltwater that's about all you can expect is about 10 years, and that they are disposable engines. Any advice is appreciated. Alan
