I found a couple youtube videos on this subject that answer most of my questions, but what i'm wondering is if Johnson/Evinrude 40/50hp models are all the same from say 1989-1994 as far as linkage measurements. The anomaly i'm running into is the spark advance linkage won't adjust down to the 2 1/16" (I believe that's the number) that the videos for the 1989 model are saying (I can't find a video for my exact year, but i'm assuming there are many similarities between the 40 and 50, and the years 1989-1994) If my memory serves me correctly, it won't adjust down any further than roughly 2.3-2.5".(The threaded end of the adjustment rod runs into the socket well that snaps on the ball.
