Alpha one, gen 1, replace gear bellow.

Hi

I have had a mechanic replacing both gear-bellows on my Alpha one, gen 1 sterndrives. I asked him why he doesn't use the Mercruiser crimping clamps and corresponding tool, but he claims that using a plastic strip is what most mechanics do. Anyone knows if this is correct? Will this strip make a waterproof sealing as the clamp will, and will it last a few years?

Yes, I also use a cable tie on the shift cable bellows.
The factory metal clamp rusts away especially if in salt water.

Not to worry. Been using cable ties for 30 years

Thanks a lot! Then I trust this will last until I need to replace again in a couple of years.
