2005 Volvo Penta 3.0 Dies when put into gear

Hey guys,
So I have a new to me boat, only had it out once, but when I put it into gear it idles very low, and if I don't throttle it immediately, it dies.

If I raise the idle to too high of an rpm (tach doesn't work, but sounds like 1000ish) then drop into gear, its fine and idle is nice.

There must be some mechanism to raise the throttle, or advance the timing when the motor goes into gear. Can anyone point me to some better info please?

TIA
Ben

YOu need to set the idle speed screw which will be on where the throtle linkage attches to the throttle lever on the carb. YOu may want to do a basic tune up like plugs set the timing and set the idle mixture and speed.
