Volvo SX-M Lower Unit replacement

Hey guys, so it happened, my lower unit had water in it and now it has several hairline cracks in it.

i ordered a used replacement SX-M lower unit with the needed 1.97 ratio, and it arrives Wednesday.

Just wondering if there are any special tricks that I need to know? Bearings to adjust or set, clearances to check, other things to adjust...

Im assuming that the old one unbolts, and the new one bolts on and thats it... Almost sounds easy.

Please let me know if im missing anything... I dont want to wreck another one.

Thanks,
Ben

Frankly, it is dead easy, hefty but can be done single handed. I'm sure you have got hold of the lower unit seal kit. One thing that I learnt was that the water tube needs to be inspected as mine had been eaten through by the exhaust gasses that pass by it. It took me a long time to find my overheat at idle problem, as the
hole was not visible without removing it for inspection. New tube is Stainless.
