I have a 1996 Mariner 50 HP four stroke that won’t start. It seems the choke is not working. I found a solenoid called an Auto Start Assy that looks like it’s part of the choke system but I can’t find any info on it. When I hook it up directly to a battery it does nothing. Any ideas on the function of this device and is it critical to cold starting?
 
my buddy has a 1996 60HP and it has an enrichment solenoid....when it clogs up, the engine doesn't like to start when cold...after we cleaned it out, it was usually running by the third crank....even with non-ethanol fuel, we have had to clean it ever other year in the last decade...
