1987 Johnson 140 VRO cooling system

I have a 1987 Johnson 140 VRO model number 1.8AHPHD serial number G1514305 I recently changed the water pump and wanted to change the water pipe that feeds from the pump to the power head as it is corroded. The parts manual lists 1 pipe yet my motor has a 2 piece item. The first comes from the water pump and then slots into a second pipe inside the mid-section. My question is should the pipe be 2 pieces or is it a modification that a previous owner has carried out? If it is a 2 piece pipe where can I get the part numbers from to replace them?

Similar, I know to try and line the two pipes up to slide into each other is a bitch, I'll order up the genuine pipe and see if it will still fit hoping that whoever has been in there hasn't modified the power head as well. Thank you.
