Crusader 454 starts and dies

"Had an interesting drive home yesterday 2- nautical miles on one motor, the other 454 Crusader has been running great, all of a sudden started spluttering and died- would restart but immediately die - through process of elimination traced the problem to be no spark from coil to Distributor, found if i figgled with the "on/off" switch (not ignition) on dash the engine would start but still die - cut the switch wires and joined but then would not start at all ??
Very confused - i thought a switch simply joined seperated two wires!!
Possible it may be something else -coil? will swap over today and try but any other ideas welcomed

You have a shorted switch circuit. You where half right thinking it was the switch most of the time it is. In this case your not getting currant to the coil due to a short. Check the hot line at the switch see if you have power then, check for a short on the cold side."

two types of switches. n.o. and n.c. check switch with ohmmeter. not sure wich You have.
