Multiple vanes from impeller missing: where do they go?

Hi all,

2004 BF20D, I am changing the impeller. Multiple vanes are missing on the old one. Where do the pieces of rubber go? How do I flush them out?

Thanks,
Barry

Compressed air, or maybe water blown down through the thermostat housing will often clear them. Some may be found under the stainless water pump plate as well.

I connected a garden hose to the flush port near the thermostat. I got great flow out of the pipe that connects to the water pump and great flow out of the telltale hose. A few small fragments of rubber came out. I'm not sure where the rest of the vanes went, maybe they were just macerated and blown out over time. The motor is relatively new to me and I don't know when the impeller was last changed. It has probably been many years. In any case there does not seem to be any significant obstruction. I recently had the water jacket cover off and I did not find any rubber in there.

Thanks!
Barry
