I am looking to pull a mercuiser 7.4l . Do i need to pull the sterndrive first?. I ahve pulled many engines and transmissions on cars but never a boat.

Yes, the inout shaft to the drive engages with the coupler on the flywheel. When you reinstall it check the alignment before putting drive back on.

Depending on how much boat is around the engine generally it is easier to pull out of a boat than a car.
