280 oil slinger washer

I have a 1979 280 outdrive where I have taken the upper gear box (transmission) apart and ordered parts I will be replacing. I took pictures as I went along but may have missed one important photo. When replacing bearing and races for the double bearing box, does the oil slinger washer protruding lip face forward as in pointing toward the "universal joint" assembly? In my pictures it looks like that's direction but I want to make sure? Or does it matter which direction in goes in?
Of coarse when I pulled the race out with the oil slinger washer it dropped so I wasn't sure. Sorry for the double picture.

Thanks in advance for any input.IMG_1105.JPGIMG_1105.JPG

"The bearings (1) and (4)can be changed separately. When changing the outer races of the bearings, these must be ”knocked”off. Knock evenly all around. Always replace the oildeflector washer together with the outer races."

Page 34 of Manual 7731624 has a nice picture of this.

Yes, the lip faces the u-joints.

Once again muc you have helped tremendously. I needed that confirmation on the direction the lip faces as the pictures I took had me on the cautious side.
Now the fun part of putting it together.
