Merc racing 525 fuel filter

I have twin mercury racing 525's. I'm having trouble removing the rear fuel filter cap. I've secured the lower section of the housing in a vice and using a large crescent wrench on the cap and I'm unable to get it loose. Has anyone had this problem, I'm thinking about putting a heat gun on it?
 
If it's what I think it is, it's probably made of aluminum. In that case it might have corroded to the point that it'll strip out when you ty to unscrew it. Good luck.
