1989 force 85 ignition wiring

I just recently bought a boat with a force 85 on it. Right now I'm stuck getting an ignition switch on it to work. It didnt have any wiring coming out of the motor to the controls so I ended up buying an 8 pin harness from a mercury 40hp. so I replaced the starter solenoid, starter, and got myself a service manual. I hooked up the yellow, white, green, red and blue wires to the ignition switch, and got nothing. Jumping the solenoid spins the motor over, but nothing with the switch. I tried a normal standalone switch and also a brand new set of controls with the 8 pin connector. Am I missing something?

serial # on motor is non existent but I found that an 856x9c motor is pretty much identical.

Here's the wiring for the key switch.
You can use the 8 wire but the color code probably won't work.
The cable can be used just different colors.

Thanks I'll have to give that a try with the switch! then if that works I'm gonna have to figure out how to get it to work with the controls I got

You'll need a Force shifter.
The others don't work
