We had the new boat out and the 60 HP Mercury EFI, 4 Cylinder (Manufactured September 2020) all the sudden started making a strange noise. Sounded like a pulsating rubbing sound. The engine only seems to make the sound when the prop is loaded, when you rev it in neutral it does not make this sound and I when I ran in in the driveway hooked to the hose with the prop spinning I did not hear it either. The engine has about 5 hours on it, the prop does not feel loose, the engine has oil. Engine still made power and we even got boat up on plane very briefly after hearing the noise, but mainly we limped it back to the ramp at 5 mph hoping nothing catastrophic would happen. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Pull the propeller and make sure the propeller hub is not rubbing on the gear housing and that the proper thrust washer is in place.
