1997 DT140 EFI Limp Mode

1st post, I have a ‘97 DT140 EFI 2 stroke, a bit of a frankenzuki as it has been made up of 2 115s, a low hour powerhead put on a better lower unit, and fitted with a 140 ECU. Finally got it all hooked up, had to replace the main fuel pump and change out two injectors which were gummed up from sitting for a long time.
Starts first crank, everything works including the oil injection, heaps of water pressure from the tell-tale. Runs up through the rev range in the tank without a prop (so no load), hard to tell revs as no tacho hooked up then.
Installed on the boat, starts and idles perfectly and builds revs easily. Under load however on full throttle it gets towards 5,000rpm then the overheat and limp mode lights flash, and won’t rev past about 3 grand. Plenty of water pumping, and water is warm but not hot (can hold your hand in the flow).
Water pump was done, new head gaskets and bolts, oil injection seems to be working fine.
swapped out the 24830-92E00 air temp sensor for one on the spare engine, read the error code for overheating. Replaced it with the original which would let it run up to revs until showing the heat/limp lights and cutting in the rev limiter.
It also has a cylinder temp sensor fitted 34820-5D20, on the head between #1&2 cylinders. This has a purple/white lead set coming from it, which doesn’t correspond with anything on the ECU. I’ve found a photo of a 2000 model and it has the sensor, but it’s not wired in. Is this a obsolete carry over from the carby models?
Any ideas on why it’s having the temp warning go off and throw it into limp mode?E6A7DD89-A1AF-417A-8E27-45C4ACEE6A59.jpg
